Mr. Schatz has been working in intellectual property law since 2006. He began as a trainee at a medium-sized patent law firm in Düsseldorf (Germany). After a short practice at a smaller patent law firm in Duisburg (Germany), he completed his education as a patent attorney at a large law firm in Bochum (Germany), where he continued to work as a patent attorney. He then worked as a patent attorney for a law firm in Münster (Germany) and a large law firm in Düsseldorf before founding the law firm SCHATZ IP in 2014.

Mr. Schatz supports his clients in particular in obtaining and maintaining protection for inventions and ideas, whereby, depending on the client's interests, nationwide, Europe-wide, and/or worldwide protection may be considered. Individual advice on choosing the right protection strategy is fundamental here. Once the desired protection has been obtained, Mr. Schatz assists with the administration of the protection, the forensic enforcement of the protection against unauthorized third parties, and the licensing of the protection. In addition, Mr. Schatz is active in matters of employee inventions law, both on the employee side and on the employer side.

The profession of patent attorney is very diverse and varied in all its aspects. The individual and highly demanding legal examination of each client's concerns is very appealing, particularly due to the necessary and challenging analysis of the respective circumstances, taking into account client's specific situation. Furthermore, the linguistic implementation of an optimal protection strategy resulting directly from this analysis is very pleasantly challenging. Another advantage of the profession of patent attorney is that clients who are interested in protecting their inventions and/or ideas come to the patent attorney with a very positive attitude, which makes handling individual matters even more enjoyable and often leads to a relatively close relationship between client and patent attorney.

After studying physics at Ruhr University Bochum, where Mr. Schatz graduated with a degree in theoretical particle physics, he decided to pursue a career that would allow him to apply the analytical skills he had developed during his studies, something he had always enjoyed doing. In this regard, the profession of patent attorney proved to be the ideal choice.

When providing individual legal advice to his clients, he takes particular care to ensure that all aspects of the client's concerns are addressed in an open and personal discussion in a pleasant atmosphere and that, in consultation with the client, a clear line is found to create the best possible legal certainty for the client. Clients should always be certain that Mr. Schatz is working on their behalf to achieve the best possible outcome for them. In particular, direct and close contact with his clients and rapid availability are important to him in order to provide clients with the greatest possible degree of security.

Mr. Schatz is happy to take on mandates in the field of technical invention protection (patent law, utility model law), trademark protection (trademark law), and design protection (design law). He provides individual support to medium-sized companies, small businesses, start-ups, and individual inventors alike, helping them to expand and optimally secure their legal and market position. Of course, he is also happy to work for large industrial companies, in particular as an extended workbench for the preparation and processing of patent applications and utility model applications.

Thanks to his training and professional experience, Mr. Schatz is able to competently handle technical inventions in many fields. In particular, he handles inventions in the fields of applied physics and mechanical engineering, having acquired specialist knowledge in the areas of automotive engineering (all aspects), power plant technology (e.g., rotating flow machines, turbo generators), metallurgical plants (metallurgy), household appliance technology, medical technology, and general mechanical engineering.

One of the distinguishing features of SCHATZ IP is its short communication channels, which enable clients to contact their patent attorney quickly and easily, thereby providing them with maximum security in this regard as well.
